THURSDAY JUNE 27TH LIVE ON TRANSITION RADIO TV AT 9 PM EST

KOKUMỌ is an African-American transgender woman and product of Chicago’s South Side. While growing up, the only messaging she received in regards to her identity was that it would lead to either death or institutionalization. Therefore, upon reaching the age of opportunity she was behooved to give herself a name that spoke of life. After an extensive search and emotional journey she discovered KOKUMỌ. KOKUMỌ means, “This one will not die” in Yoruba, a West African language.
To KOKUMỌ surviving is passé. Therefore, she believes in sanctioning artistic, political, and actual space for other Trans, Gender Non-Conforming, and Intersex (TGI) people of color to thrive in. In accordance to this belief and her name, she created KOKUMỌMEDIA. KOKUMỌMEDIA uses film, music, and literature to create and generate realistic depictions of TGI people of color.
KOKUMỌMEDIA has produced some of the most innovative projects and events in the multimedia industry. From the one- transwoman show, The Faggot Who Could Fly to T.G.I.F. (TGI Freedom) Rally and Picnic, KOKUMỌ is stoking the flames of a renaissance. Her EP, There Will Come a Day debuted in February 2013. Gender Dances a film by Nancy Evelyn Gold live on Transition Radio TV June 20th at 9 PM EST

Being born in 1964 Nancy considers herself born into the sixties but not a child of them. Nancy’s mother, like many women of her time, was given the synthetic estrogen DES. This lead to many of Nancy’s internal drives to be naturally feminine leaving the question of her being intersexed vs. transsexual always unanswered. Nancy would sit to pee and had soft features always. In 1975, at age 11 Nancy would see an episode of Medical Center where TV’s Mr. Brady came to the medical center seeking a male to female sex change. The extremely well written episode answered her questions and from that point forward it was clear to her that surgery was the only route to happiness. Life, however, is rarely that easy. Fearing losing her family or being committed to a mental institution Nancy kept her desires a secret and tried to live as a male including getting married in 1989. In late 1992 the top began to blow off and it was during the 1993 March on Washington that Nancy made the decision to follow her heart. It was at this time that her parents threatened to have her committed and they settled on no contact, which persists to this day some 20 years later. On August 8th, 1993, among a group of friends at sundown Nancy introduced herself to the world and never looked back. On the 25thof the same month the following year she was fortunate to have successful sex reassignment surgery. In Junior High School Nancy was introduced to making Live Television and she’d later take some random film courses. In February of 2013 Nancy began pre-production of “Gender Dances”, a film about fluid gender expression. The film is currently in production and promises to deliver a final product with a ‘raw’ edge that looks at transmen, transwomen, and allies in an unflinching manner. The film promises to openly look at sex, love, life trails. There will be no ‘off-limits’ subjects.

Friday June 14th we have Tim Westmoreland author of Un-Tucked catch us live at 630 PM EST http://www.blogtalkradio.com/transitionradio/2013/06/14/tim-westmoreland-un-tucked-series

Tim Westmoreland grew up in a small town in Alabama, where change is un-acceptable. He says People in the South may say they accept change with open arms, but change is only acceptable if it happens to be going backwards.
. I find myself today surrounded by many cultures, and styles of living. I decided to embrace everyone with open arms. People (regardless of acceptance) need to feel needed. This is hardwired into our minds. I set out on a quest to find my place in this world. I have traveled, lived and associated with folks who would be considered the outsiders to normal human life. I myself am straight...But why do we have to wear labels? I don’t care if you’re black, white, gay or straight. As long as you know who you are and I know who I am, then are we not just 2 people living our lives? This is the philosophy I have lived by, loved by, and practiced. I don’t understand a lot of times why we have to wear labels. Take for example, if a man says he is a woman trapped in a man's body, he is considered transgendered, Correct? If that same man associates with gay men, he is considered gay. But if that man gets to change his life and go through the hours, weeks of pain to change his sex from male to female so she can now be with a man, would she not then be considered straight...This is the paradox we live in within our cultural society that concentrates on labels. When I decided to undertake the "Un-Tucked" Series, it was a decision that my wife and I as a straight married couple decided to do so that the barriers of labels could be lifted. The series shows people just like you and me who have made their mind up and took on unfathomable strides to drop the label they were born with and pursue what makes them feel alive and like themselves. It's said your life is a book....What are your pages? We must drop the labels so that other folks can become "Un-Tucked".
