Sunday on Transition Radio TV Isis King

Isis King, an artist hailing from Prince George County, Maryland, is a graduate of the Arts Institute of Philadelphia. Majoring in “Fashion Design” and accepted to the school with a full-tuition scholarship, Isis served as Vice President of the “Fashion Club,” and graduated with the Industry Award for “Best Evening Wear” in 2005. After graduation, Ms. King began the process of preparing a move to New York City. It was during this time that a MSNBC documentary about Transgendered Individuals in 2007, entitled “Born in the Wrong Body: On the Edge” featuring Ms. King, introducing her to the world. Isis King’s “spotlight,” was now on.

The life changing moment came for Isis, when the creator, producer and star of America’s Next Top Model (ANTM), Tyra Banks, observed her, ironically enough, at a “Cycle 10” ANTM photo shoot. Isis was encouraged to audition for “Cycle 11” of ANTM and was selected. For the first time in her life, she boarded an aircraft and traveled to compete amongst other “Supermodel” hopefuls. Leaving behind her fears, the homeless shelter where she was a resident and all apprehensions, she became the first woman of transgender experience to compete on ANTM. As a result, Isis became an ICON, as the most commented upon contestant in ANTM history.

Storm Miguel Live on Transition TV

Please stay tune this Sunday Feb 24th at 4 pm EST Live with at Transition Radio TV on http://www.notstr8.tv/live/ to catch another great interview with a great song writer and performer Storm Miguel (FTM).

There are plenty of male folk-twang Americana singer songwriters who sing about love, oppression, assimilation, and growing up an outcast in the U.S., but not many of them can say they learned to write songs at Girl Scout camp.

StormMiguel Florez is a MexicanAmaricón (pronounced: Ah mar eee cone) singer/songwriter, performer, and producer who was born and raised as a girl in Albuquerque, New Mexico. More importantly, he was a kid who loved to sing. As a child, StormMiguel stood on furniture and performed for his family, by singing along with Johnny Cash, Jesus Christ Superstar (performing all parts), Helen Reddy, and the Grease soundtrack. As a grown-up he has been featured on NPR's Snap Judgement and has performed at venues across the U.S. StormMiguel now lives with his wyfe (spelled with a 'y'), their two cats, and their part time chihuahua in San Francisco, CA.

Liane Simon Live Friday Feb 22 at 630PM EST

Lianne Simon is the author of Confessions of a Teenage Hermaphrodite, a deeply emotional tale of growing up with a sexually ambiguous body. Born with a rare genetic disorder, Lianne struggled to survive infancy. The same intersex condition that made her tiny and frail as a child, and that gave her a pixie face and a timid disposition, also kept her from becoming the man her parents expected. Faced with testosterone injections meant to virilize her body, Lianne chose instead to preserve her feminine looks and change her legal status to female. Today, Lianne lives with her husband and their cats in the suburbs north of Atlanta. Listent to the show live and call in with questions. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/transitionradio/2013/02/22/lianne-simon-is-the-author-of-confessions-of-a-teenage-herma

Jala A. McKenzie-Burns on Transition Radio Live

Stay Tune this Friday February 8th at 630 PM EST on Transition Radio http://www.blogtalkradio.com/transitionradio/2013/02/08/jala-mckenzie-climbing-lifes-mountain

Jala A. McKenzie-Burns was born of biracial parents on November 11, 1965 as Dave Edward Morris. Abandoned in the hospital, she was placed into the foster care system and adopted by an African-American family in 1972. As a young child, she personally experienced the racial unrest and was taunted for her dual racial heritage. On top of this, she found herself expected to live up to society’s demands of her as a boy and a young man, while she yearned for the things of a feminine nature. To hide the truth of who she felt she was inside, she joined the U.S. Marine Corps, worked in the political arena, graduated from college, married, and raised a child. In all that time, pain and depression followed her that she could not express her true nature. When her adoptive father died, she fell into a deep clinical depression, which triggered an attempted suicide and admission into a psych ward. After revealing her desire to express herself as a woman, her adoptive mother rejected her, sending her on a journey that eventually united her with her biological mother and sister, and later with her other siblings. In 2004, she began transitioning into the woman that she is today. In January of 2006, she legally changed her name. Through this period, she continued to experience depression and was admitted numerous times for hospitalizations due to her unhealthy methods of coping. In 2010, after the death of her adoptive mother, she was reunited with her biological mother and siblings. At this point, through the support of her family, reading, and hard work, she began to overcome her depression and move into a new stage of life. Do something for somebody every day. This is the motto by which Jala lives and by which she shares the common experience of climbing life’s mountains. Jala raises the question, “What impact would society have if everyone did something for somebody every day?”
